The Muscle Cars of Today

Muscle cars have always been something admired by men and women alike for most of the past 40 years. The new age brings designs which are sleeker, sexier and most definitely more power. One of the most well known of the new breed is none other than the Ford Mustang. This piece of work is certainly a dream to own. The beautiful exterior design, the luxury it holds underneath its hood and the superbly high performance makes it a reason for envy to most car owners.

The modern muscle cars typically have two doors and powered by a roaring v8 engine. The price tags on these new designs are somewhat more affordable now and this has led to its appeal to more and more college students. Muscle cars were initially meant for racing when it was first introduced in the late 1960’s up to the earlier bit of the 1970’s. Back then the idea was to take a huge, powerful engine and put in into a small, light car. This guarantee high speeds and was perfect for straight line racing. Nowadays, we see them everywhere from the busy roads to the highways of America.

Today the designs have been made so that they reflect more of a European style. The time of small, light cars have long gone with the modern designs including full sized cars, some pony cars and even compacts equipped with an engine much more powerful compared to the ones back then. The American media referred to these cars then as ‘supercars’ of their time. The term of ‘muscle car’ was not really used to describe them until after their production had stopped.

Car manufacturers nowadays develop limited editions of very high performance models of their cars. The more famous muscle cars of this time include the Chevy Camaro, the Chevy Corvette and of course the highly acclaimed Ford Mustang. This holds true for even some college students and the muscle car fanatics.

Let’s just hope that the newer designs would be more fuel efficient!
