The Cheapest of them All (Cars, that is)

In America, people know of car manufacturers such as Cadillac, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, Chevrolet and GMC (General Motors Company). However, there are many, many more car manufacturing companies out there! One of them is the Tata Motor Company located in India. If there are so many more motor companies then why do I mention this one? I speak of them because they produce the cheapest car that is on the market!

Chevrolet produces a car called the Aveo that is sold for $12,625 and Hyundai makes the Accent which sells for about $9,970. Even though it may seem like a stretch, neither of these companies make the least expensive car in the world. Therefore, Tata Motors comes into play. On March 23, 2009, the Nano was released. This four door, rear-engine, sleek, tiny and easy to handle vehicle sells at $2,500…or less. The car is primarily aimed towards the India market and is available for purchase in July 2009.

The name of the car, Nano, was titled by Tata Motors using their own language. Gujarati is the language of the founders of the Tata Group. Even before the Nano, other car manufacturing companies have tried to create vehicles that are very similar. For example, DaimlerChrysler has been selling the Smart Car, which is very tiny, but costs $35,000. India still has them beat. Other various vehicles include the Mini Cooper and the Volkswagen Bug. Even though they are small, each still costs a considerable amount more than the Tata Nano. So far, this car is the cheapest the world has seen in a very long time. Now we just have to sit and wait to see what will come next!
